Harry Schneider, PhD, MD will present on the reasons why children with classical autism cannot speak the way neurotypical children do. He will present functional neuro-images of the brain from an investigational research study soon to be published from Columbia University, showing what parts of the brain do not work for language and that the neural connections in these children are not complete. He will discuss how his practice responded to parents who wanted something done for their children. He will present the results of more than four years of treating these children with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS ).  Many of his patients are now talking and he will discuss the range of results he has seen -- from those who can finally state their needs and respond to commands to those who are ready to return to mainstream education.
